Written by:  Marcy Taylor

What's Happening?

  • Wednesday, February 22:  An evening with guest speaker Rochelle Myers. Ms. Myers writes about food for the Frederick News-Post, and another publication and she also blogs.
  • Friday, March 16:  NCJW Frederick Section Sponsored Oneg.  Join us for Shabbat services and the Oneg afterwards in honor of a very special member.
  • Sunday, March 25:  NCJW Frederick Section will prepare and serve dinner at the Soup Kitchen.  Volunteers needed.
  • Saturday, May 19:  Hadassah and NCJW are bringing back its fun-filled “Night Out” event and fundraiser.

Personal Note:

Next month NCJW Frederick Section will celebrate its 91st birthday.  This milestone makes me think about how times have changed since those first meetings when our organization’s primary focus was making sure that Beth Sholom congregation had a synagogue.  Today, our small organization reaches far into the local community, providing much needed goods, services and money to help those less fortunate.

As we start our 91st year, I find that we are struggling to maintain the same level of support to the community with less involvement from our membership.  At our January meeting, we were unsuccessful in forming a nominating committee to identify candidates for the outgoing officers.  After being President of NCJW Frederick Section for the past 4 years, I am concerned that no one is waiting in the wings to take on the leadership role.  Speaking for our entire leadership team, we need and want your help!  Please ask us how you can get involved – I am confident you will be glad you asked.

I am also sad to report that after 40 issues, we decided to discontinue publishing the NCJW calendar.  Although this is our largest annual fundraiser, the number of calendars sold each year does not appropriately support our advertiser’s expectations.  Please let us know if you have any fundraising ideas to replace the annual calendar.

I am very proud of what our section brings to Frederick and forever grateful for the generous support our Jewish community provides.  I am hopeful that, with your help, we will find a way to grow and continue to support our community.
